December 14, 2009:

So what do you think about another reunion?
Should we just do it in Grants again with a kicker to go to Vegas?
Have the reunion on Friday night, then leave for Vegas Saturday Morning, spend Saturday night and Sunday in Vegas and come back on Monday?

January 16, 2009:
Apparently it's time for a change. There will be another Class Reunion of multiple classes when there is enough interest to get it done. There will be emails between old friends as time goes by thanks, in a small way, as a result of getting reacquainted at a reunion or at Classmates.com or another site. In the mean time, I'll post tid bits here for you amusement and to remind you that once upon a time you went to Grants High School when you were younger.

bullet Obituaries:(posted February 13, 2006)
bulletI have news I would rather not be reporting. For those of you who have not kept up with events you will be saddened to know of two Class of 1968 classmates who passed away recently. I will be adding their names, obituaries and pictures to the memorial page, as the information becomes available. Thanks to Mary Alice Hunsinger (Munson), Class of '70 and her sister, Wanda Davenport (Munson) Class of '68, for forwarding the following information to me: (posted by Lovell (Bud) Thompson, Class of 1968)

Paul M. Bonomo, 56, passed away on Jan. 30, 2006, after a three-year battle with lung cancer.

He was born on Jan. 26, 1950, to John and Margaret Bonomo of Springer, N.M.

Mr. Bonomo graduated from New Mexico State University and in 1976 started his engineering career at Hewlett Packard, now Agilent Technologies, as a hard working and sincere employee. He was privileged to work on challenging projects around some of the electronics industry’s brightest individuals and was awarded several patents for his creative inventions of new manufacturing methods. He was a practical person who could fix almost anything mechanical.

One of Mr. Bonomo’s most treasured experiences was being Cub Master for Loveland Troop 81 from 1996 to 2000, helping cub scouts with pinewood derby clinics and outdoor adventure trips. His interests included glass blowing, motorcycling, football, winemaking, Mexican food and canoeing. He selflessly gave of his time for volunteer jobs with humor, uniqueness, and commitment to excellence. He was a good storyteller who could pound square words into round holes. Instead of burial, Mr. Bonomo always wanted to be stuffed so that his friends and family could be perpetually entertained by his warped sense of humor.

Loyal to his Catholic faith, he was a member of St. John’s the Evangelist Catholic Church of Loveland, Colo.

Mr. Bonomo is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 25 years Gail Bonomo; his four children Daniel Zorlon of Fort Collins, Colo., Brandy Yvette of St. Michaels, Md., David Xylon and John Winter Bonomo of Loveland, Colo., and his siblings, their spouses and children Robert and Billy Jean Bonomo of Clafin, Kans., Anne and Dr. Mario Maiese of Cherry Hill, N.J., and Thomas and Pat Bonomo of Cottonwood, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents and many loving aunts and uncles.

Viewing and visitation took place on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, at Goes Funeral Care in Fort Collins, Colo. Recitation of the rosary was held on Monday, Feb. 6, at St John’s Catholic Church in Loveland, Colo., followed by the Mass of the Resurrection.

Friends may send flowers or memorial contributions to the Boy Scouts of America Longs Peak Council, Catholic Charities of Northern Colorado, or to the Human Taxidermy Entertainment Association thru Goes Funeral Care and Crematory, 3665 Canal Drive, Fort Collins, CO 80524, (970) 482-2221 or www.goesfuneralcare.com.

Maxine Abeyta

Maxine P. Gutierrez, 55, of Grants, passed away on Feb. 3, 2006, in Albuquerque.

She was born on April 21, 1950, in Las Vegas, N.M., to Macario Abeyta and Isabel Mares Abeyta. She had just retired as a teacher at Grants High School, and had also taught at New Mexico State University-Grants Campus.

Mrs. Gutierrez is survived by her children Christina Gutierrez of Las Lunas and Monica Gutierrez of Grants; her mother Isabel Mares Abeyta of Grants; her sister Erika Abeyta of Albuquerque and her granddaughters Isabel Pfeiffer of Phoenix and Lauren Gutierrez of Grants. She was preceded in death by her father Macario Abeyta.

A Rosary will be recited today, Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 7 p.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Grants. The Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 10 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church with Father Matthew Keller as celebrant. Burial will follow at Grants Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maxine P. Gutierrez Theater Building Fund, care of Grants High School.

bulletMini-Reunions?
bullet
Mini-Reunion 2005/2006 (09/19/2005). Ok, how's about a pow wow in Albuquerque in November or January? We'll call it a Reunion Planning Committee Meeting and invite the Committee from 2003 Reunion and we can do some planning for 2008 and maybe some planning for a real mini-reunion. November 11-12, November 18-19 or January 20-21. Let me know what you think. If we do a Friday night and Saturday we can get a few things done and maybe have some drinks and chit chat with the group. Any takers? Any better ideas?
So far I've had several votes for November and only one for January. Discussion seems to center around having it at a midtown Hotel with good accommodations. Perhaps somewhere near I-25 & I-40? email me and let me know your vote.

bullet09/03/2004:

I am trying to find out how many people would be interested in a reunion in 2006. How many would consider meeting in Las Vegas? If you are interested email Chareen-> Chareen Chareen Noordam Rae

05/21/04:  I recently was contacted by Jill Mason ('68) she now lives near Bandera, Texas and owns her own business and sounds like she is doing well. More later...

I got my Reunion Book and it turner out pretty good overall, I just can't figure out who all those old people are? It sure seemed like there was just young folks at the reunion.

bullet09/03/2004:Yep that's right, more reunion news. Chareen (Noordam) Rae wants to hear from anyone interested in a reunion in Las Vegas, Nevada. man that sounds like a great way to celebrate. Have you always wanted to go to Vegas and party? If you are interested email Chareen-> Chareen

bullet05/21/04: Yep that's right, more mini-reunion news. There is a group interested in getting together later this year for a three day weekend mini-reunion. Location is up in the air as yet but ideas are Ruidoso, Albuquerque (ought to make it easy for the locals involved) or Las Vegas, NV (definitely more upscale). To date it looks like is '68ers. If you are interested email me-> Bud Thompson
bullet01/07/04: I was in Denver over the New Year's Holiday and had a chance to talk to Paula (Ramsey) Stout (class of '68). She said that her and  her husband (David Stout '66), had a mini-reunion with Carol (Phillips) Rushing ('68) and her husband Scooter in the fall. I also heard, through the grapevine, that Veonette Byerley (a.k.a. Sammye Joiner) and a few people got together in Dallas recently. Thanks for the news about the mini-reunions. Bud
